Lately, do you suffer from workout  boredom, hit a plateau or just flat out cringe when you think of hitting the gym?  I hope so, you’re only human!  The good news is, we all suffer from peaks and valleys in our training program. The fix can be as easy as training outdoors to enjoy the cooler weather fall brings or simply adding an entirely different style of training like yoga or functional training into your regimen.

It’s time to make that change a reality!  I promise it will bring more excitement into your workouts and have you once again looking forward to exercise.  For me, I notice it happens after prepping for a figure show more than any other time.  If you’ve been very focused on a goal and worked hard towards making it a reality, once that goal is attained, its easy to fall flat.  Having a new goal can help avoid these types of plateaus and breathe new life into your workouts.

Here are some simple suggestions to change it up for the better!

Set new goals

Train for a road race, a Tough Mudder, a triathlon, a fitness competition or a group challenge.  Pick something that excites you and gives you a new focus and just go for it.  It can even be something you never thought you could do.  Pushing yourself to the limit can provide a new-found confidence and act as a great motivator.

Get a buddy

Used to going it alone?  Well maybe its time to have a friend join you to add a little accountability.  You can help motivate each other to push harder, run faster and crank out those extra few reps.  We can all benefit from a little extra push, especially when we are feeling less than ecstatic about exercise.

Train outdoors

Cooler weather brings a fresh new excitement to training outdoors.  Go hike a mountain, go for a run or take your bike out for a spin.  Constantly training indoors can get dull and feel monotonous.  Getting a taste of the great outdoors while you better yourself and your health is a terrific way to push through a plateau.

Make your resolution now!

Don’t wait until January 1st, make your resolution now!  With the impending holidays, it’s especially easy to lose sight of what is most important to you with the mentality that you can pick back up where you left off in January.  NO! There is no better time than right now to start living, doing and being exactly what you wish to be.  A healthier, better you!  Don’t settle and don’t make excuses or you’ll be kicking yourself in a few short months for putting it off.

Try an App

A great way to change up your training is to use a fitness app such as the Muscle and Fitness Hers app available for FREE on iTunes now. It provides nutritional info, workouts and more to give you some fun, fresh ideas.
