I’ve been enjoying the freedom of getting out of the gym for a bit. Outdoor sprints, long distance runs a couple of times a week, sandbag training and all-around variety has made my workouts exciting again. It can become monotonous if you don’t change things up from time to time so get off the hamster wheel and spice it up a bit. You’ll be sore in new ways and having fun with your workouts again.
I’m streamlining a bit and laying off the heavy weights and next to no cardio I was doing. I’m not a fan of “cardio” per say anyway, but I have a love for running as I’ve been running since I was 12 and competing in both track and cross country in high school. I find it to be a mental escape and training outdoors will always be a favorite of mine. By incorporating bodyweight moves, plyos and my sandbag, I can get a tough workout in 15 minutes and I’m done for the day. Here’s the workout I made up yesterday and it was great. Having not done burpees regularly for quite awhile, my shoulders are burning today. Hurts so good!

*I was using 20 lbs in my sandbag (a killer on the squat jumps)
- Sandbag weighted squat jumps
- Pull up or reverse push ups on dip station
- Burpees
- Sandbag weighted sit ups (sandbag on your feet and go all the way down and all the up)
- Jump rope (aim for at least 100+ rotations in this 50 seconds)
